UNI Track and Field: Kiewiet wins 4 MVC titles, women's 4x100 sets record

DES MOINES, Iowa - UNI track and field broke one school record and crowned five champions in the final day of the 2022 Missouri Valley Outdoor Conference Championships.
The UNI men's team finished third, and the women's team finished fourth overall.
Parker Kiewiet swept the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes and topped off the day as part of the winning 4x400 relay team at the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships. He earned the league's male MVP award.
The 4x400 team of Tate Hookham, Connor Blough, Kiwiet and anchor Zack Butcher battled Illinois State down the stretch to edge out the Redbirds for the win.
Kiewiet's winning time of 20.63 seconds in the 200-meter dash is the second fastest in program history. Three Panthers combined for 20 points in the 200-meter dash with Kiewiet, Isaiah Trousil (third) and Tayshaun Cooper, who took fifth place.
After winning shot put yesterday and taking seventh in the hammer throw on Friday, King capped the weekend with a discus title, edging out fellow Panther and last year's champion Tom Yezek.
UNI has won nine outdoor MVC discus titles since 2011. King's win gives the Panthers a third consecutive win in the event.
In the 800-meter run, Drake Hanson earned all-conference honors with a time of 1:53.46.
On the women's side, the team of Madelyn Sanda, Jill Bennett, Libby Wedewer and Paishence Johnson combined to win the 4x100 and set a new school record with a time of 45.29.
The 4x400 relay team earned all-conference honors with a third-place finish from Erin Kerkhoff, Jill Bennett, Sophia Jungling and Auriona Kimbrough in a time of 3:46.63.
Katie Nimrod was the only individual to earn all-conference honors today, taking bronze in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:02.50.
The Panthers won eight events overall and earned all-conference honors in 10 events.
King earned the Outstanding Male Field Athlete Award as the highest-ranking individual performance on NCAA list.
UNI assistant coach Jeff Coover became the first recipient of the Assistant Coach Award for his work with the men's team. The award is voted on by MVC coaches. One is given to a men's coach, and a second award is given to a women's coach.
The women also placed three times in the 200-meter dash with Emily Vos taking fifth, Paishence Johnson in sixth and Libby Wedewer finishing eighth.

SPECIALITY AWARDS
In addition to the three titles he won today, Kiewiet also won the men's long jump on the second day of the championships.
