CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI's three NCAA outdoor track and field qualifiers from the 2025-26 season will have another opportunity to compete on the national stage this week at the USATF Outdoor Championships in New York.
Joey Perry and Katy Stephens, along with former Panther Carter Morton, will compete in the decathlon and heptathlon at Icahan Stadium on Randalls Island in Manhattan, July 23-24. Live coverage of the meet can be found on NBC and USATF.tv. Full event schedules can be found below.
Perry, a Winneconne, Wisconsin native, earned First Team All-American status after placing eighth in the heptathlon at last month's NCAA Outdoor Championships in Oregon, setting a new UNI and Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) record with 5,913 points. The women's most valuable athlete of this year's MVC Outdoor Championships with two event titles, she also set new career-best marks in four of the heptathlon's seven events. Perry also was a member of UNI's school record 4x400-meter relay team for both the indoor and outdoor seasons, plus the outdoor 400-meter hurdles.
Stephens, native of Burlington, Iowa, finished 12th in the NCAA heptathlon last month to earn Second Team All-American honors with a career-best 5,776 points, including a career-best mark in the shot put. Additionally, Stephens captured the MVC outdoor titles in the women's javelin and high jump, the latter of which she tied Northern Iowa's outdoor school record in.
Jefferson, Iowa native Carter Morton begins his post-collegiate career following a sixth place finish in the NCAA decathlon in June, where he earned First Team All-American status after setting the UNI and MVC records in the event with 7,972 points and career-best marks in four of the ten events. The men's most outstanding athlete and most outstanding field athlete of the 2026 MVC Outdoor Championships, Morton helped lead the Panther men to their second consecutive and league record 16th indoor conference team title this past year. He finished his collegiate career holding the Northern Iowa and MVC record in the heptathlon (indoor season) as well.
