Panthers finish out multi’s at USATF Outdoor Championships

NEW YORK --- The UNI track and field trio of Joey Perry, Katy Stephens and former Panther Carter Morton closed out action at the USATF Outdoor Championships on Friday at Icahn Stadium in Manhattan in the heptathlon and decathlon.
Perry, who took eighth in the heptathlon at last month's NCAA Outdoor Championships for First Team All-American honors, finished the two-day, seven-event competition in 11th place and 5,567 points, notably throwing a career-best 40' 6 (12.38 meters) in the shot put.
Stephens, a Second Team All-American after a 12th place heptathlon finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, took 12th for a second straight meet with 5,551 points in the 16-woman field.
Morton, who rounded out his collegiate career with a sixth place performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June with First Team All-American status, placed tenth in the 19-man field with 6,878 points. Despite three fouls in the long jump, Morton would put together strong performances in three other events, including the top mark in the high jump of 6' 9 ½ (2.10 meters), and personal bests i n the discuss (126' 9 / 38.66m) and the 1,500 meters (4:35.73).
