UNI crowns 3 champions on Day 2 of 2022 MVC Outdoor Championships

UNI track and field at MVC Outdoor Championships
DES MOINES, Iowa - UNI track and field crowned three champions, while four more Panthers earned all-conference honors on the second day of the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships.
The men have moved up to third place, and the women are sitting in fourth after both teams were in fifth place yesterday.
Panther titles / all-conference (top three places):
King won the shot put in dramatic fashion. Having led much of the competition, he was edged out on Logan Calvin's final throw. Calvin of Illinois State topped King's throw of 19.71 meters (64 feet, 8 inches) with a throw of 20.24 meters (66-5), sending King into second place heading into the Panther's final attempt.
On the sixth and final throw, King tied Calvin with a throw of 20.24 meters. King won the title on the tiebreaker, which came down to the throwers' second longest mark.
King is now the 26th thrower to have earned two or more MVC shot put titles. Tom Yezek also earned all-conference honors in the shot put with a throw of 17.88 meters (58-8).
The Panthers also earned all-conference honors in the women's shot put when Marin Ehler posted a career best to take third place with a throw of 15.44 meters (50-8). Morgan Nealey placed fifth.
UNI won two more titles from the Panther jumpers. Rylie Todd, who was seeded second in women's high jump, won the event with a leap of 1.73 meters (5-8). Parker Kiewiet had a career personal best to win the men's long jump in 7.71 meters (25-3.5).
In addition to all-conference honors in shot put, UNI opened the day with a third-place finish by Lydia Berns-Schweingruber in heptathlon. Berns-Schweingruber entered the final event in sixth place while teammate Kelly Proesch was in 10th. Proesch took second, and Berns-Schweingruber took fourth in the final event, the 800-meter run, to move up to scoring positions for the Panthers. Proesch finished in seventh place.
On the men's side of the multis, all four Panthers who competed in the decathlon score points for UNI. Carter Morton earned all-conference honors as runner-up to Illinois State's Ariel Atias. Morton posted a career high of 6,972 points. Also scoring points for UNI was Matt Davis (fourth), Zack Butcher (fifth) and Drew Bartels (sixth).

UNI placed a Panther in the finals of all the prelims ran today. Jack Sumners, Drew Bartels, Riley Little and Kyle Trunnell will compete in the 110-meter hurdles tomorrow, while Paige Kisley will run the 100-meter hurdles.
On the men's side, Kiewiet and Connor Blough qualified for the 400-meter finals and Auriona Kimbrough will run in the 400-meter finals for the women's team.
Isaiah Trousil and Tayshaun Cooper earned top-eight spots for the 100-meter dash finals, and Paishence Johnson and Jill Bennett will be in the women's 100-meter dash.
In the 800-meter run, Drake Hanson and Seb Gearhart will compete for the men, and the 800-meter run indoor champion Sophia Jungling will compete in the women's race.
Bill Mukhtar and Grant Rickertsen will compete in the men's 400-meter hurdle race, while Katie Nimrod earned an automatic qualifying spot in the women's race.
