UNI track and field at 2022 Outdoor MVC Championships
FRIDAY, MAY 13
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The UNI men's track and field team is looking to win its fourth consecutive outdoor Missouri Valley Conference this weekend.Â
A team title would set a program record. UNI last won three consecutive outdoor championships with wins in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Head coach Dave Paulsen is the first UNI coach to have three MVC outdoor titles to his name.Â
UNI track and field enters the 2022 MVC Outdoor Championships with 31 marks in the league's top five.Â
Darius King is the highest-ranked Panther in any event with the sixth best mark in the nation in shot put. He is coming off his fourth consecutive week as the league's Male Field Athlete of the Week.
King set a UNI shot put record earlier this year with a throw of 20.26 meters (66-5.75) to lead the conference. In discus, King sits in second behind teammate Tom Yezek to go one and two in the MVC with throws of 58.21 meters (191 feet) and 57.09 meters (187-4).Â
Yezek's leading throw is the third best mark in UNI history.Â
UNI also holds the top mark in discus on the women's side. Malory Henze leads the conference with a throw of 52.28 meters (171-6), which is the second best throw of any Panther in program history.Â
In the multievents, Lydia Berns-Schweingruber holds the MVC lead in the heptathlon. On the men's side, Carter Morton, Zack Butcher and Drew Bartels are second, third and fourth in the decathlon.Â
