Women's 4X800 Relay Team Sets New School Record

DES MOINES, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa track and field program wrapped up the third day of competition at the Drake Relays with the women's 4X800 meter relay team setting a new school record in the event.
The team of Emily McCarthy, Scotti Schon, Amber Clock and Alex Wilson became first all-time at UNI in the event today after finishing with a time of 8:48.28. The quartet beat the previous time of 8:49.61 that was set in 2006.
“We had a busy day today, but came away with some things we feel good about,” head coach Dan Steele said. “We felt we had a good shot at the women's 4X800 record and were thrilled that we got it. The women competed really well today.”
Both the women's 4X200 and 4X400 relay teams set new season-best times today. The 4X200 meter relay team of Christine MacNeill, Darian Thompson, Maddie Beeler and Sam Cameron placed second in their heat with a time of 1:39.36. In the 4X400, the team of Beeler, Emily Roberts, Thompson and Cameron finished with a time of 3:44.26.
In the men's relays, the 4X200 meter relay team had a strong run, finishing fifth overall and coming away victorious in the their respective heat. The 4X400 meter relay team of Jesse Davenport, Marshall Hill, Sheldon Magee and Jordan Guske posted a new season-best time of 3:14.73.
In the field events for the day, the Panthers had several strong performances. Jenna Wexter and Libby Torresani both came away with heights of 12-09.50 in the pole vault, with Torresani tying her personal-best. In the men's pole vault, Daniel Gooris finished fourth overall with a height of 16-10.75.
Justin Baker and Kelsey Sukovaty both shined in the shot put, with Baker coming in third in his heat. Baker finished with a throw of 55-07, while Sukovaty placed ninth overall in the women's competition with a throw of 48-06.75.
Paige Knodle rounded out the field events, competing in the javelin throw. The sophomore threw for over 134 feet for the fourth time this season.
The Panthers will return to action tomorrow with UNI athletes competing in the shuttle hurdle relay, spring medley relay, discus throw, hammer throw and with the women competing in the distance medley relay.
