ST. LOUIS --- UNI senior Carson Lienau has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Men's Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
The selection, the first of Randecker's career, marks the first weekly conference award for the Panther program this outdoor season.
A Jesup, Iowa native, Lineau threw an outdoor career-best 59' 11" to win the men's shot put title at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Phil Esten Challenge last week. The mark, which currently leads the MVC, also ranks 23rd in the NCAA's West Region as well as 43rd in all of NCAA Division I track and field. Lienau also placed eighth in the men's discus with a toss of 163' 9", the third-best mark in the conference this year.
Earlier this year, Lienau notably won the MVC indoor shot put title and was also fifth in the weight throw.
In addition to Lienau, Drake's Centaine Noon-Duckworth was named the MVC's Women's Field Athlete of the Week, with Jamie Phillips of Bradley earning men's track honors and Indiana State's Rachel Mehringer women's track recognition.
Lienau and the Panthers return to action this week as UNI competes at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, as well as the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
