UNI swim and dive opens 2025-26 season with Purple and Gold Intrasquad

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI swimming and diving opened up its 2025-26 season on Saturday afternoon with its annual Purple and Gold Intrasquad meet inside the Glen F. Henry Pool, with the purple team claiming victory over the gold team by a score of 123-118.
Saturday's action started off with the 200-yard medley relay that saw the gold team of Morgan Raether, Neriah Giedrys, Hannah Nedder and Abby Lear take the edge of the purple team of Elyse Brayton, Sydney Aird, Nikki Walters and Morgan Meyer. Action continued with the 500-yard free that saw Abigail Barkhurst and Sam Oeltjen of the gold team take first and second, followed by Kirsten Tarran in third for the purple team.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Nikki Walters came out on top for the purple team, followed by Molly Johnson and Rachel Rolow in second and third for the gold team. The 200-yard freestyle saw Morgan Meyer coming out on top for the purple Team, with Jennifer Barajas and Natalie Kuboushek taking second and third for the gold team. 50-yard freestyle action saw Abby Lear of the gold team take top spot with Charlotte Sander of the purple team taking second and Raether following in third for gold.
The 100-yard butterfly saw Hannah Nedder of the gold team come out on top, followed by the Purple Team duo of Nikki Walters and Natalie Harris claiming second and third. Morgan Meyer would take top spot in the 50-yard free for the purple team, as Kuboshek and Josie Parton would take second and third for the gold team.
Elyse Brayton would go on to take first in the 100-yard back for the purple team while Raether and Sabra Brueggen took second and third for the gold team. The 100-yard breaststroke saw the gold team take first and second with Giedrys and Aspen Cole leading the charge, as Sydney Aird came in third for the purple team. The final relay of the afternoon, the 200-yard free relay, saw the purple squad of Charlotte Sander, Averie Bilskemper, Natalie Harris and Morgan Meyer secure first as the gold team of Morgan Raether, Abby Lear, Hannah Nedder and Josie Parton took second.
In the diving well, Erica Peters of the purple team would claim top prize with the one-meter springboard, as Trista Thompson and Avery Hogan of the gold squad took second and third.
To cap off the meet in an entertaining finish, members of the Panther diving squad took part in a 50-yard freestyle sprint that saw Peters and Coonrad lead the way for the purple team and Addison Bausman in third for the gold team. UNI swimmers also took to the boards in a one-meter competition, with Meyer out on top for the purple team, followed by Cole and Parton of gold.

The Panthers return to action next Friday, Oct. 10, as they travel to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in a dual meet. Competition is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. CT, with live results available on the Meet Mobile app.
