UNI golfers to continue fall schedule in Iowa City, Twin Cities area

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The UNI men's and women's golf teams continue the fall season this coming Monday as both teams return to the links beginning Monday morning.
The Panther women will head to Iowa City for the Diane Thomason Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course, hosted by the University of Iowa, while the Northern Iowa men venture north to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area for the Tommie Invitational at the Stone Ridge Golf Course in Stillwater, Minnesota, hosted by the University of St. Thomas. Both events are slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. CT on both Monday and Tuesday.
UNI's women's team return to competition after a week away from the course following a fourth-place team finish at Murray State's The Velvet, where Anna Jensen finished in a three-way tie for fifth-place with a final score of 226 (+10), earning Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Golfer of the Week honors. Victoria Hualde finished in a tie for 13th place with a final score of 231 (+15), while Anna Nacos placed in a three way tie for 17th place, shooting 234 (+18).Â
Finkbine Golf Course is set at 6,058 yards and a par-72, that will see 36 holes be played on Monday for the Panther women, and 18 on Tuesday. The Diane Thomason Invitational will feature 15 teams including UAB, Northern Illinois, Montana State, Missouri State, Southern Mississippi, Texas Rio Grande Valley, UTSA, Wisconsin, Bowling Green, Iowa, Southern Illinois, Drake, North Dakota State and Oklahoma City University.Â
The Panther men are coming off a tenth-place team finish at the Zach Johnson Invitational this past week in West Des Moines, ready to face the 6,674-yard, par-72 course with a 36-hole shotgun start on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. Teams expected to compete in Minnesota include North Dakota, Weber State, Indian Hills Community College, Creighton, North Dakota State, Minnesota, South Dakota, St. Thomas and Omaha.Â
In their last tournament, Connor Van Weelden led the Panther men in a four-way tie for 11th place with a final score of 214 (+1) at the Zach Johnson Invitational. Brock Seiser finished in a six-way tie for 27th place carding a 219 (+6), while redshirt senior JD Pollard ended in a six-way tie for 39th place.Â
