
UNI Swimming Travels to Nebraska for Dual Meets

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa-- The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team is heading to Nebraska for dual meets this weekend.

The Panthers will face the Nebraska Huskers at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 at the Devaney Natatorium. Â The Panthers travel to the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks on Saturday, Oct. 29 for a 1 p.m. meet at the HPER Pool.

"It's going to be great competition to help gauge where we are," commented head coach Doug Humphrey on this weekend's competition.

Last Year Results

The Panthers fell to the Huskers last season in Cedar Falls. The Huskers hold a 7-0 all-time record against the Panthers.

The Panthers defeated the Mavericks in Cedar Falls last season. The Panthers nabbed nine first place finishes at the meet.

Molly Lembezeder, Madison Rinaldi, Rachel Siebenaller and Veronica Herrmann all had strong performances against these teams last year and return for the Panthers in the 2016-17 season.

Last Time in the Pool
Â
The Panthers defeated Quincy and Sioux Falls (SD) at home on October 21. Impressive freshmen debuts came from Kylie Engstrom, who won the 1000 freestyle in ten minutes, forty-eight and four hundredths of a second. Â Moriah Ross debut in the 200 IM, winning it, with a time of 2:10.90. Katie Taylor continued to dominate in the pool, winning in the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle events. Taylor swam times of 56.88 and 5:09.29, respectively.

The night also had strong performances from returners Molly Lembezeder, Crystal Florman, and Madison Rinaldi to name a few. Lembezeder won the 50 and 100 freestyles, with times of 24.21 and 53.18. Florman walked away with two individual first place finishes and one relay first place. Florman won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.95 before winning the 100 butterfly, 58.36. Rinaldi would take second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.78.

Reunion in Lincoln

UNI head coach Doug Humphrey, a former swimmer and assistant coach for Nebraska will return to his alma mater.
Â
Senior Stephanie Jackson will also meet her former high school teammate in Lincoln. Nebraska senior Julia Roller and Jackson competed for Naperville Central High School in Illinois. The two seniors swam for head coach Sue Welker where they aided the Naperville Central to conference and sectional championships.
