
UNI Dominates in Home Opener

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa-- The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team hosted their home opener tonight, hosting Quincy University Hawks and Sioux Falls (SD) Cougars. The Panthers won 13 of 14 events.
Impressive freshmen debuts came from Kylie Engstrom, who won the 1000 freestyle in ten minutes, forty-eight and four hundredths of a second. Moriah Ross debut in the 200 IM, winning it, with a time of 2:10.90.
Katie Taylor continued to dominate in the pool, winning in the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle events. Taylor swam times of 56.88 and 5:09.29, respectively.
Molly Lembezeder continued to have strong performances at tonight's meet. Lembezeder won the 50 and 100 freestyles, with times of 24.21 and 53.18.
Sophomore Crystal Florman walked away with two individual first place finishes and one relay first place. Florman won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.95 before winning the 100 butterfly, 58.36. Florman teamed up with Madison Rinaldi, Olivia Knowles and Autumn Roepsch to start the evening off with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. The Panthers clocked in a time of 1:49.64
Roepsch would individually win the 100 breaststroke, timing in at 1:06.79.
Knowles swam a time of 2:31.25 to win the 200 breaststroke.
Rinaldi would take second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.78.
Kelsey Ostrowski would round out the victories in the 200 butterfly, swimming a 2:11.86.
"We're strong," remarked head coach Doug Humphrey after the meet. "We have the endurance, just need to work on the speed."
In the diving competition, Hannah Brummel won both the 1 meter and 3 meter dives, with personal best scores of 234 and 240.67.
Alyssa Deuso took second in the 1 meter diving, with a score of 213.45 and third in the 3 meter diving, with a score of 214.50.
Emma Billerbeck took second in the 3 meter diving and third in the 1 meter diving, with scores of 236.92 and 210.

Next Time in the Pool
The Panthers travel to Nebraska next week. The Panthers will face Nebraska on Friday, Oct. 28 and then will travel to Nebraska-Omaha for a meet on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Panthers will be home on November 4, hosting the University of South Dakota
