Panther golfers continue fall season at Wildcat Invitational, The Velvet

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The fall golf season rolls on for the UNI men's and women's golf teams as both programs gear up for its second tournament of the month starting Monday morning.
The UNI men, who placed 12th at the Derek Dolenc Invitational last week in Madison, Illinois, will head to Manhattan, Kansas for the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Kansas State University. Golfers will tee off at 8:30 a.m. CT on Monday for a 36-hole shotgun at the par-72, 7,525-yard Colbert Hills Country Club, followed by the third and final round on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. CT.
Teams expected to compete alongside the Panther men include Drake, North Dakota, Creighton, Bradley, Central Arkansas, Houston Christian, Jacksonville State, Kansas City, Lindenwood, Omaha, Stephen F. Austin, and UT Arlington.
In his previous outing, JD Pollard led the Panther men at the Derek Dolenc Invitational in a three-way for 15th place shooting a total of 210 (-3). Nile Petersen tied for 25th place with a score of 215 (+2), while Calen Bishop shot a 223 (+10) in his collegiate debut.
On the women's side, the Panthers will head south to western Kentucky to compete in The Velvet, hosted by Murray State University at the Country Club of Paducah. The par-71, 6,076-yard course will feature an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start with 36 holes played on Monday, followed by the final round on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT.
The Velvet field will include 15 teams, including North Carolina Asheville, Southern Indiana, Indiana Wesleyan, Evansville, Southern Illinois, the University of the Cumberlands, Indian Hills Community College, Tennessee State, Belmont, Northern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, Indiana State and Austin Peay.
The Panthers ladies are coming off of a three-way tie for seventh place at the Redbird Invite last week where Anna Jensen led the way with an 19th place individual finish after scoring a team-best score of 70 in the second round. Anna Nacos took a 25th after shooting a 77 (+5) in the final round, bouncing back from her second round score of 79 (+7) and finishing with a 227 (+11).
