Panthers gear up for MVC Outdoor Championships

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI track and field takes the track after all of its hard work this season on May 10-12 for the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships. This year's Championships are held at the Gibson Track and Field Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana on the campus of Indiana State.
In a release of the MVC pre-championship poll, the Panther men were tabbed third with 76 points and the women were tabbed sixth with 80 points, as voted on by the league's coaches.
UNI currency holds the top mark in the MVC in the men's Javelin. Justice Miller holds the spot in the javelin with a 62.14-meter throw at the Jim Duncan Invitational in mid-April for the lone Panther top-mark. UNI has top-10 marks in 34 other events so far this season heading into MVC Outdoor Championships.
The Panthers are coming off a three-champion weekend at the Badger Challenge with three more Panther athletes claiming unattached titles.
Brendan Safley recorded a career-best mark of 5.36 meters with a first-place finish on the pole vault while Josey Dunbar came out of the pit with the lead in the long jump, recording a first-place, 5.86-meter jump to take home the title. In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Jayden Dickson, Kon Dut, Micaiah Ellis, and Karson Kleve took home the gold in a time of 3:15.74.
Katie Fare put up a career-best in the shot put while competing unattached with a first-place, 17.26-meter toss while Libby Wedewer tied her career best with a 200-meter run of 24.25 seconds unattached. Running unattached, Luke Meyers led the pack in the 200 meters with a time of 21.25 seconds, a new career best.
