CEDAR FALLS, IOWA — UNI women's golf hits the links for its final scheduled tournament of the season as the Panthers take on the full 11-team Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) field beginning on Sunday morning at the MVC Championships. Hosted by Bradley University, this year's championships will be contested at the Anbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Illinois.
Play is scheduled to begin with the first round on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. CT on the par-72, 6,176-yard course. Monday's second round with tee off at 9:30 a.m. CT, with the final round beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday. Individual tee times have yet to be announced.
The Panthers took 9th place overall at last year's MVC Championships at the Green Briar Hills Country Club in St. Louis, with Hannah Bermel earning All-Conference honors with a 12th place finish on the leaderboard. Illinois State enters this year's tournament as the defending champions. UNI was picked to finish 11th in the MVC preseason poll, which was voted on by the league's coaches in February prior to the start of spring play.
Allison Nuss tied for 21st place overall last year at the MVC Championships after shooting a 79 (+7) in the opening round. Madison Humke placed 42nd with a score of 252 (+39), while Anna Jensen took 43rd place at 256 (+43), and Lily Bredemeier placed 44th with a total of 260 (+47).
Coming off a tough performance as Omaha's Stampede At The Creek earlier this week in Nebraska, UNI will look to finish the season strong, led by a late season surge by two of the MVC's top newcomers in McKenna Mallow and Victoria Haulde. Mallow, who earned MVC Golfer of the Week honors back in November, holds the mark of shooting the best round by a Panther this season, recording a 69 in the final round of the Ozarks National Invitational in the fall. Haulde has also come on strong during the spring, improving her season average to 80.3 per round with 12 rounds of 70.
UNI is coming off of a tough tournament at the Stampede at the Creek last week as the Panthers placed 9th overall led by Anna Jensen who tied for 22nd. Jensen has had a consistent season leading the Panthers and shot an even-par (72) in her last round. Close behind was Anna Nacos, who notched a 76 (+4) in her first round of play. Junior, Lily Bredemeier tied for 49th with an overall score of 242.
