CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI swimming and diving returns to the pool for the first time in a month with an active weekend of competition ahead as the Panthers visit Sioux Falls for the annual Coyote Extravaganza, hosted by the University of South Dakota at the Midco Aquatic Center.
Live results will be posted on the Meet Mobile app for swimming, and online on Dive Meets for diving results.
In a unique meet setup, the Panthers will face off against the likes of South Dakota, South Dakota State, St. Cloud State, Augustana (S.D.) and Sioux Falls in ten separately scored duals over the course of two days of competition. At last year's Coyote Extravaganza, Northern Iowa won 11 of 12 duals meets, splitting with South Dakota during the two-day event last November.
This weekend's meet will be the first for the purple and gold since their Oct. 6 season opener, a 196.5-103.5 dual loss at Iowa. Despite coming up short against the Hawkeyes, UNI posted an impressive performance in its opening meet of the year, with reigning MVC 50-yard freestyle champion Faith Larsen winning the event in a time of 23.37. Larsen currently leads all MVC swimmers with the fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle so far this season.
Amber Finke also took home first-place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.82, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Larsen, Clare Christensen, Abby Lear and Morgan Meyer took first with a 1:34.64.
On the boards, freshman Trista Thompson placed third in her collegiate debut on the one-meter springboards with a score of 245.65, cracking UNI's top-ten all-time list. Junior and 2023 All-MVC Honorable Mention diver Hannah Taylor also took home a third-place finish on the three-meter boards with a score of 230.90.
