UNI swim & dive sweep up ten dual wins at Coyote Extravaganza

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- UNI swimming and diving completed a perfect ten-for-ten sweep in dual competition over the weekend at the Coyote Extravaganza, grabbing victories over South Dakota, South Dakota State, Augustana (S.D.), St. Cloud State and Sioux Falls at the Midco Aquatic Center.
The Panthers kicked off the action on Friday night in the 400-yard medley relay with Amber Finke, Sydney Aird, Scout Bergwall and Abby Lear taking second place (3:53.96). Olivia Chambers followed up the relay performance with a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:40.08), before a narrow victory in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.89), narrowly outtouching South Dakota's Tatum O'Shea by 0.04 seconds.
Finke would take home first in a pair of events during the first night of competition in both the 100-yard backstroke (56.39) and 200-yard freestyle (1:53.40). Faith Larsen, the reigning MVC champion in the 50-yard freestyle would continue her sprinting excellence by taking the event in 23.76 seconds.
Aird notched a win in the 400-yard individual medley (4:41.70), while Morgan Meyer grabbed gold in the 100-yard freestyle (52.78). Meyer, Larsen, Clare Christensen and Taylor Short would round out the first night of action in a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.22).
The Panthers again showed their prowess in the pool heading into day two of competition with the 200-yard medley relay team of Finke, Ema Lavigne, Bergwall and Lear taking third place (1:47.44). Larsen would win the 50-yard freestyle for a second straight day, separated by just 0.07 seconds. Larsen and Meyer would also finish first and second respectively in the 100-yard freestyle with Larsen recording a winning time of 52.32. Meyer also took first-place in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.98.
In Saturday's 200-yard individual medley, Finke clocked a 2:07.79 for a three-second victory over her closest challenger. She would also win the 200-yard backstroke by a six-second margin with a time of 2:01.78.
Chambers grabbed second-place in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:22.67) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.36), while freshman Nikki Walters placed third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.85), narrowly edging out Bergwall who took fourth-place (2:13.18).
UNI closed out the swimming portion of the weekend with Lear, Meyer, Short and Larsen clinching gold in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:30.88).
In the diving well, Erica Peters led UNI on the one-meter boards with a score of 245.40, placing second overall among the overall competition. Trista Thompson followed Peters with a fourth-place finish and score of 237.10, with Avery Hogan taking fifth-place (234.15). On the three-meter boards, Maddie Moran scored a 231.10 to place fifth overall, while Hannah Taylor followed in sixth place (227.50).Â
