Yodts, King, Yezek Garner First Place Finishes at ISU Invite

NORMAL, Ill. – UNI track and field wrapped competition at the ISU Invite, hosted by Illinois State in Normal, Ill., on Saturday with graduate-students Kyler Yodts, Darius King, and Thomas Yezek clinching gold in the hammer throw, shot put, and discus, respectively. The Panthers tallied six event wins and 38 top-five finishes over the weekend and took second in the men's and women's team rankings. The men posted 155 points and the women earned 125 points.
During the men's session, Yodts placed first in the hammer throw with a toss of 61.77m and took fifth in the shot put with a mark of 17.17m. King led the Panthers in the shot put, posting a mark of 19.35m to earn gold, and took fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.59m. Yezek and sophomore Cameron Jones finished first and second in the discus with personal-best tosses of 55.29m and 53.91m, respectively.
In the 200 meters, Elijah Hicks stopped the clock with a personal best of 21.09 to take second. Sophomore Jack Sumners led the Purple and Gold in the long jump, landing second with an outdoor personal best leap of 7.13m. Sumners also placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.48.
The Panthers garnered third-place finishes in the high jump (senior Cameron Cantrall, 1.96m), 1500 meters (junior Andrew Kephart, 3:57.03), and 400-meter hurdles (sophomore Thai Thompson, 53.33, PR).
During the women's session on Friday, the Purple and Gold saw event wins from junior Mia Rampton in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:26.90, PR), graduate-student Taylor Raines in the 100 meters (11.60, PR), and redshirt senior Aleenah Marcucci in the 100-meter hurdles (13.60). Marcucci also placed second in the long jump with a personal best leap of 5.93m.
The Panthers posted second-place finishes in the 3000-meter steeplechase (senior Tess Roorda, 11:52.14), pole vault (junior Cierra Laux, 3.74m), and the 4x400-meter relay (3:54.10). Senior Anna Hoyman notched third place finishes in the hammer throw with a toss of 56.03m and in the discus with a mark of 45.80m.

The Panthers will head to Vermillion, S.D. for the South Dakota Tune-Up on May 7. Field events are scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. with the women's discus, men's shot put, and men's pole vault, while action at the track will start at 4 p.m. with the men's 4x100-meter relay.
