Fourth-Ranked Panthers Travel to No. 10 Southern Illinois

UNI is 2-1 on the year after a 20-10 win in a dominant defensive performance against No. 15 Illinois State. Another test awaits UNI in No. 10 Southern Illinois Saturday at 12 p.m. at Saluki Stadium in Carbondale.Â
• The Will McElvain and Tyler Hoosman scored touchdowns and the Panther defense held Illinois State to just three points as the Panthers earned a 20-10 win over the No. 15 Redbirds. The Panthers clinched the game with a fourth-quarter strip sack and touchdown on the ensuing possession. Spencer Cuvelier was named the MVFC Player of the Week.Â
• SIU is 3-1 on the season, including a dominant 38-14 win over North Dakota State  in their home opener.Â
• Six Panthers earned Preseason All-MVFC honors. Will McElvain, Isaiah Weston, Jared Brinkman, Omar Brown, Bryce Flater and Matthew Cook earned honors. Weston Brinkman and Brown earned Athlon Spring Preseason All-American honors and Weston and Brinkman earned HERO Sports Spring Preseason All-American Honors. Hero Sports also named Brinkman and Weston the best returning players in the MVFC at their position.Â
 • Mark Farley is the winningest coach in UNI and Missouri Valley Football History and the 10th coach in FCS history with 150 FCS victories. The win against Youngstown State was his 100th MVFC win.Â
 • UNI is climbing the statistical rankings. The Panthers are seventh in passing yards allowed, seventh in scoring defense and seventh in total defense.Â

 • The Panthers and the rest of the Valley are scheduled to play eight regular-season games. UNI hosts four teams, three of the opponents that make their way to the UNI-Dome, SDSU, NDSU and Illinois State, were ranked in the top-10 in the FCS STATS Preseason Poll.
