UNI football: Crandall and Ostroski named to the MVFC All-Newcomer Team

ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) released its All-Newcomer selections on Tuesday morning which included a pair of Panthers. Ryan Crandall and Owen Ostroski were named to the Defensive All-Newcomer Team as standout transfers.
Ryan Crandall, LB, Sr.
Ryan Crandall was second on the Panthers with 110 total tackles and led UNI with 58 solo tackles. Crandall's 11 TFLs for 34 yards also lead the Panthers. In the MVFC, Crandall is fifth in the league with 9.2 total tackles per game.
A transfer from Western Illinois, Ryan Crandall played in 31 games across three seasons, compiling 186 tackles (106 solo), 20 TFL for 43 yards, and 7 sacks for 20 yards. He added two interceptions for 46 return yards, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, seven pass breakups, and three quarterback hurries. Crandall led the Leathernecks in tackles in 2024 with 91 stops and earned Phil Steele All-MVFC honors in 2023. A highly productive and versatile linebacker, he posted double-digit tackles five times in his career, including a 16-tackle performance in 2024.
Owen Ostroski, DL, Sr.
Owen Ostroski was a game wrecker on the defensive line, recording a team-high six sacks for 48 yards this season including a sack on fourth down to flip possession back to the offense in each of the games against NDSU and Youngstown State. Ostroski finished the season with 42 total tackles and three QB hurries as well as his first career interception with a 19-yard return. The newcomer is third in the league with half a sack per contest.
A transfer from Tulsa, Owen Ostroski appeared in 36 games across four seasons, totaling 91 tackles (33 solo), 22 TFL for 115 yards, and 8 sacks for 75 yards. He added two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery returned 64 yards, and four quarterback hurries. A consistent producer on the defensive front, Ostroski recorded double-digit TFLs in both 2023 and 2024. He was also a standout in the classroom, earning CSC Academic All-District honors twice and Academic All-Conference recognition in each of his four seasons.
