CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's golf team begins the 2019 spring season in Daytona Beach, Florida, playing in the Babs Steffens Hatter Collegiate at the LPGA International March 24-25.
The Panthers will be led by senior Sarah McMichael and followed by a very talented group of sophomores- including two of the top 3 returners, Emily Snelling and Hannah Bermel.
The women's golf team are coming off a successful fall campaign, winning the Creighton Classic and finished second in the University of Nebraska Omaha Invite. Last spring the Panthers never finished lower than second in tournament golf, winning the ORU/SFA Spring Break Shootout and finishing second in the Western Illinois Match play tournament, Indiana state Spring Invitational, and the MVC Championship.
Sarah McMichael goes into her final season as a Panther determined to go out on top.
"My goals for the season are to give it my all and hopefully I will see some low numbers that will allow our team to win a conference championship. I think it is very possible that we win all of our meets this spring."
Sarah, along with each of her teammates, are motivated and working hard each week to prepare themselves the best they can through this brutal winter.
The Panthers are coached by John Bermel, in his twenty-fourth year of coaching.
"We are looking forward to the spring" stated Bermel. "We are going to find a way that we can get better each and every day. We want to get our team ready for the MVC Championship and to give ourselves the best chance to win the tournament. A lot of dedication and the will to get better each and every day will give us the best chance to win."
