UNI Swimming Set for MVC Championships

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa— The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team will compete at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Feb. 17-20 in Carbondale, Illinois, on the campus of Southern Illinois University at the Dr. Edward Shea Natatorium.
The Panthers have had an outstanding season this year, with a record of 7-4.
Season Highlights
Sophomore Molly Lembezeder continued to make her mark in the record books, breaking her own records three times and helping to break two relay records. Lembezeder's school records in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events stand at times of 23.29 and 50.58.
Junior Aftin Phyfe set the school record in the 200IM with a time of 2:06.66.
Lembezeder teamed up with Crystal Florman, Autumn Roepsch and Rachel Siebenaller to squeak by the record board, giving a new school record of 1:34.82 in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
Madison Rinaldi, Roepsch, Florman and Lembezeder teamed up to finish five hundredths of a second away from breaking into the Top-10 in the 200 Medley Relay. The team swam a time of 1:45.52.
Senior Taylor Ostrowski won the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:09.24 versus MVC opponent Illinois State. Ostrowski has never lost in a dual meet against the Redbirds.
Veronica Herrmann took first place in multiple 100 and 200 Breaststroke events. She swam to a time of 1:05.36 in the 100 and a time of 2:22.96 in the 200.
Freshman Madison Rinaldi made her debut on the record books, setting a new record in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:03.47.
Seniors Allie Bey and Sarah Kemp qualified for the Zone "D" Diving Championships. It will be Bey's third consecutive appearance in the championships, while it will be Kemp's second appearance. Bey dived a 260.05 in the 1-meter dive and scored 272.55 in the 3-meter dive. Kemp's qualifying dive scores were in the 1-meter dive with a score of 274.5 and in the 3-meter dive with a score of 248.77.
"We are very excited about the meet. We have had a remarkable season. This is the culmination of all our hard work," Head Coach Doug Humphrey said. "I encourage people to watch what we are doing."
