UNI Swimming Finishes Strong at Iowa Invite, Records Fall

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team finished up competition today at the Iowa Invitational, hosted by the University of Iowa.
Rachel Siebenaller made it into the Top-20 in the 1650 Freestyle race, nabbing a time of 17:29.73.
Maya Appleton, Meredith Gorman, and Lauren Pentzien also made the Top-30 in the 1650 Freestyle. Appleton had a time of 18:16.61, Gorman a time of 18:28.91 and Pentzien rounded the group out with a final time of 18:40.87.
Madison Rinaldi kept consistent alongside Aftin Phyfe in the 200 Backstroke race. Rinaldi finished with a time of 2:03.47 and Phyfe with a time of 2:05.12, both good for Top-20 finishes.
Molly Lembezeder also kept up her consistency as she swam a 51.20 in the 100 Freestyle race, which was good for a seventh place finish. Crystal Florman joined Lembezeder in the Top-20 with a time of 51.29.
Veronica Herrmann just barely missed getting into the Top-10 in the 200 Breaststroke race, with a respectable time of 2:21.25. Olivia Knowles qualified for the finals and had a finishing time of 2:26.76.
Taylor Ostrowski led the Panther squad in the 200 Butterfly race. Ostrowski swam a 2:07.57, getting into the Top-15. Ostrowski's sister, Kelsey, and Stephanie Jackson also made the Top-20, with times of 2:08.45 and 2:08.91, respectively.
Phyfe, Florman and Lembezeder teamed up with Autumn Roepsch for a fifth place finish in the 400 Freestyle relay. The squad nabbed a final time of 3:26.48.
Head Coach Doug Humphrey had this to say about the girls and the meet, "We put together really good swims and we were very successful in quite a few events. Overall, it was a good weekend. Now, we get to turn our attention to training." Â

Records Fall
Molly Lembezeder broke her records in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle again. Lembezeder 50 Freestyle now stands at 23.46 and the 100 Freestyle stands at 51.20.
Aftin Phyfe broke her record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07 even.
Madison Rinaldi made her debut on the record books, setting a new record in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:03.47.
Lembezeder teamed up with Florman, Roepsch, and Siebenaller in the 200 Freestyle Relay for a time of 1:34.56.
Lembezeder, Florman, and Roepsch would get a hand from Rinaldi and set a new record in the 200 Medley Relay, with a time of 1:44.87.
Phyfe, Florman, Roepsch and Lembezeder all teamed up to create a new record in the 400 Freestyle Relay, nabbing a time of 3:36.48.

Next Time in Action
The Panther squad takes a break for the holidays and returns to competition after the holidays. The squad heads to Illinois for meets against Illinois State on Jan. 15 and in Quincy, Ill., on Jan. 16. Â
