Panthers Swim Past USD, 167-133

VERMILLION, S.D.—The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team swam past the University of South Dakota Coyotes tonight, winning the meet 167-133. The Panthers won eight out of the 16 events they competed in.
Rachel Siebenaller took home two first-place individual finishes and anchored a winning relay. She won the 800 freestyle and the 400 freestyle. Siebenaller was 13 seconds ahead of the runner-up, swimming a time of 9:23.57 in the 800. She was five seconds ahead of the runner-up in the 400 with a time of 4:35.36. Siebenaller was also the anchor for the relay of Molly Lembezeder, Crystal Florman and Autumn Roepsch in the 200 freestyle relay, with a time of 1:49.03.
In addition to the relay, Lembezeder won two individual events. Lembezeder swam a time of 26.68 in the 50 freestyle, edging out teammates Crystal Florman and Siebenaller. Florman and Siebenaller took second and third place, respectively. Lembezeder also took home the top spot in the 100 freestyle, swimming a time of 58.19.
"Molly had a fantastic meet," said head coach Doug Humphrey. "Our relays did very well. It's a tough place to swim, but we had good results."
Veronica Herrmann won the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke, with times of 1:14.67 and 2:44.98 respectively.
Freshman Madison Rinaldi was the lead swimmer in a first-place 400 medley relay of Herrmann, Taylor Ostrowski and Lembezeder that finished in 4:23.93. Rinaldi took second place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 7.05 seconds, and in the 200 backstroke in 2:25.80. Stephanie Jackson was the final Panther to take home her own first-place finish with a winning time of 2:25.45 in the 200 butterfly. Ostrowski trailed a second behind her in second place.
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they compete against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at 4 p.m. in the Stanley J. Marshall HPER Center Pool.
