CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving teams looks to continue their season this week with meets against the University of South Dakota and South Dakota State University. The Panther squad travels to the University of South Dakota Oct. 22 for a 5 p.m. meet in the Dakotadome. The squad returns to action Oct. 23, competing against South Dakota State University at 4 p.m. in the Stanley J. Marshall HPER Center Pool on South Dakota State's campus.
The Panthers were knocking on the door of records as they competed last weekend against Iowa and Michigan State. The Coyotes won their season opener against the Western Illinois Leathernecks Oct. 10. The Jackrabbits fell in their season opener to the University of North Dakota Oct. 17.
Sophomores Molly Lembezeder and Rachel Siebenaller both continued to make a big splash in the pool as they started their sophomore season. Lembezeder was .18 seconds away from breaking her current school record in the 50-yard freestyle and .46 seconds from breaking her current school record in the 100-yard freestyle. Siebenaller was just less than 10 seconds shy of her record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:06.63 and a second-place finish.
Seniors Taylor Ostrowski and diver Sarah Kemp each started their senior season strong. Ostrowski swam into third place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.87, just five seconds short of her record in that event. Kemp took third place in the 1-meter diving, with a score of 231.85.
