CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The final month of the regular season begins for the UNI track and field team won Friday and Saturday as the Panthers take the short trip to Iowa City for the Musco Twilight.
Competition is slated to begin at 12 p.m. CT on Friday with field competition and continue again at noon CT on Saturday at the Francis X. Cretzmeyer Track. Teams expected to be in action against the Panthers include Chicago, Cornell (IA), Creighton, Drake, Grinnell, Iowa, Lindenwood and Western Illinois.
Northern Iowa was in action with a packed week of action last week at both the Drake Relays in Des Moines, as well as the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola. At the Kip Janvrin, the Panthers captured five event titles, including Maleah Walker in the women's long jump (18' 5 ¼"), Tory Wash in the men's shot put (54' 4") and Justin Olson with a career-best throw of 197' 9" in the men's hammer. On the track, Paige Paup secured the women's 100-meter hurdles crown (14.83), as Chase Lauman won the men's 1,500 meters (3:52.20).
UNI put together a solid showing at the Blue Oval at the Drake Relays with two event titles. Joey Perry posted a career-best score of 5,643 points with three individual personal-best to become UNI's first-ever Drake Relays heptathlon champion with the 15th-highest score in Division I this season. Carter Morton also won the men's long jump championship division with a career-best and Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) leading leap of 25' 4" for his second career Drake Relays title and the second-best outdoor mark in school history.
Other notable finishes for the Panthers at the Drake Relays included Amelia Hill taking second in the university/college division of the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:34.13). In the pole vault, Erica Miner took second in the women's university/college competition (12' 10 ¾"), while Carter Pheifer placed third with a new career-best height (16' 3 ¼"). The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Perry, Jersey Jones, Darci Wiseman and Emma Randecker also set a new school record in 3:35.26.
ÂEntering May, Northern Iowa leads the MVC in eight total events, and ranks in the top-five in 29 total events as well:

- Heptathlon - Katy Stephens (5,728 pts)
