Two records fall for Panther track and field at the Musco Twilight, Fresno State Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa --- Two weeks out from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Outdoor Championships, the UNI track and field team captured eight event titles at the University of Iowa's Musco Twilight, with additional athletes competing at the Fresno State Invitational in California with one event win.
Northern Iowa's strong weekend was highlighted by a pair of program records falling, including Joey Perry in the women's 400-meter hurdles in Iowa City, as well as the men's 4x100-meter relay team of Tinashe Chigudu, Parker Kiewiet, Luke Meyers and Luke Nevitt in California.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Chigudu, Kiewiet, Carter Meyers and Nevitt clocked a time of 39.47 seconds, the fastest time in the MVC this season and one one-thousandth of a second shy of tying the MVC record. Elsewhere in Fresno, Emma Randecker finished third in the women's 200 meters and sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.86)
In the field events in Iowa City, Carter Pheifer won the men's pole vault after clearing a height of 16' 10 ¾" with Jacob Yoerger placing fourth with his own mark of 15' 1". On the women's side, Erica Miner tied her career-best and set the second-best out mark in school history after she cleared the pole vault with a 13' 1 ½" mark. Sydney Scott earned a podium finish as she followed up Miner with a third-place finish with a height of 12' 3 ½". Carter Morton and Daniel Adams placed first and second respectively in the men's high jump as they leapt for 6' 9 ¾" and 6' 7 ¾". Katy Stephens placed first in the women's high jump (5' 7").Â
Perry (58.11), Darci Wiseman (1:00.74) and Carlie Jo Fusco (1:01.36) swept the podium in the 400-meter hurdles, with Perry also setting a new meet record in addition to her school record. In the men's 400 hurdles, Gabe Funk and Bill Mukhtar finished first and second, crossing the finish line in 52.68 and 53.85 seconds.Â
Jessica Kyne won the women's 100-meter dash in 12.12 seconds, as Jersey Jones (24.78) and Giada Grimes (24.81) placed second and third with career-bests in the women's 200 meters. Kaylee Woolery (4:32.02) and Ethan Olds (3:50.88) finished the 1,500-meter runs in first and second respectively crossing the finish line.
Back in field action, Brylie Lorence and Kileigh Lachacz finished third and fourth in the women's hammer throw on Friday with tosses of 171' 8" and 167' 1" respectively. Later on, Jorie Henenburg and Makayla Crannell also earned third and fourth-place finishes in the women's javelin, where they threw for 124' 2" and 119'. Josey Dunbar and Maleah Walker rounded out the top-three in the women's long jump with marks of 18' 9 ¼" and 18 ½"

The Panthers return to action next week at the Cyclone Twilight, hosted by Iowa State. Competition is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. CT at the Cyclone Sports Complex in Ames.
