UNI track and field travels to Chicago for Blue Demon Alumni Classic

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI track and field team Panthers continues its road down the final stretch of the indoor season this Friday it travels to Chicago, to compete in the Blue Demon Alumni Classic, hosted by DePaul University.
Competition is set to begin at noon CT at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center at Gately Park. Field events are scheduled to kick off at noon, followed by track competition at 1:30 p.m. CT.
The Panthers return to action after a strong performance last weekend at Nebraska's Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, as well as the Iowa State Classic. In Lincoln, Emma Randecker set a new school and team freshman record in the women's 200-meter dash, breaking a 32-year old mark held by UNI Hall of Famer Shantel Twiggs in 24.11 seconds. Randecker, who on Wednesday was named the MVC's Women's Track Athlete of the Week, also finished third in the 400 meters in 55.33 records, the fifth-fastest time in team history.
Katy Stephens, competing unattached, topped the podium in the pentathlon at Nebraska with a score of 4,038 while also setting a new school record in the women's high jump (5' 10"). Joey Perry finished closely behind, placing second with her own score of 3,897. Tye Hardin captured first place in the heptathlon with a score of 5,276, while Tinashe Chigudu earned himself a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 21.46 with Parker Kieweit finishing seventh in 21.83.Â
At the Iowa State Classic, Zach Fall picked up the Panthers lone win of the meet, capturing the men's 400-meter dash title in 48.47 seconds with Gabe Funk (48.96) and Kaden Emanuel (49.41) finishing fifth and eighth. Jersey Jones took third place in the women's 400-meter dash, while Carlie Jo Fusco (57.21) took sixth and Darci Wiseman (57.28) took seventh. Micah Rees finished fourth in the men's 5,000 meters (14:44.87) with Evie Henneberry taking fifth in the women's 5,000-meter race (18:01.80).

- Women's Long Jump - Josey Dunbar (19' 10 ¼"
- Pentathlon - Joey Perry - 3,953 pts
- Heptathlon - Carter Morton - 6,054 pts
