Panther track and field takes on competition at Wartburg, Kansas State this weekend

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The UNI track and field team returns to action this Friday and Saturday as it doubles up on the weekend with competitions at the Wartburg Indoor Select, as well as the DeLoss Dodds Invitational, hosted by Kansas State.
Competition at Wartburg is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. CT on Friday and 9 a.m. CT on Saturday at Hoover Fieldhouse in Waverly, with action in Manhattan at the Indoor Track and Field Complex beginning at 3 p.m. CT on Friday and noon CT on Saturday.
Northern Iowa returns to competition after winning 12 events last Saturday at the Iowa's Larry Wieczorek Invitational, which included athletes record four new top-five performances in program history.
Among the top performers was Chase Knoche, the reigning Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Male Track Athlete of the Week, recorded the 13th fastest men's 800-meter run time in Division I this season in 1:49.24 to win in Iowa City. Zach Fall and Maya Williams also captured both the men's and women's 400-meter dash titles over the weekend.
Anna Van Kooten placed first in the women's 600 meters (1:37.17) as Joey Perry finished in first place in the women's 200-meter dash (25.05). Emma Hoins also led the way for the Panthers with a win in the women's 3,000-meter premier race (9:34.33).
UNI won five events at the Wartburg Indoor Select last season, including the heptathlon (Brody Lovell), pentathlon (Amanda Lietz) and the men's and women's pole vault (Brendan Safley and Alivia Silvestri).
