Records fall for UNI track and field at Kansas State, Wartburg meets

MANHATTAN, Kan. --- The UNI track and field team's double duty weekend saw a school record fall in the men's 1,000-meter run, as well as a handful of meet records go down with seven titles captured at Kansas State's DeLoss Dodds Invitational, as well as the Wartburg Indoor Select this weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT THE DELOSS DODDS INVITATIONAL
Chase Knoche and Drake Hanson posted career times in the men's 1,000 meters on Friday in Manhattan with Knoche breaking Tyler Mulder's 2009 school record in 2:22.72, while Hanson broke his own personal-best time (2:24.17) to set a new second-fastest time in team history.
Kate Crawford (17:14.15) and Eden Mueller (17:28.74) finished second and third in the women's 5,000-meter race with new personal-best time to close out the opening day of competition.
Katie Fare set the tone for the Panthers in the throwing events, first placing fourth in the women's weight throw (18.14m) before winning the shot put with a 16.96-meter toss, setting a new meet and facility record in the process. Carson Lineau earned a fifth-place finish in the men's weight throw (17.31m). Josie Moreland and Rylie Todd also took fourth and fifth place respectively in the women's high jump, both clearing 1.71 meters.
In the sprints, Drew Bartels (8.12) and Carter Accola earned third and fourth in the men's 60-meter hurdles, while Parker Kiewiet placed third in the men's 400-meter dash in 47.20 seconds. Luke Meyers set a new personal-best in the men's 200 meters (21.41), as Maya Williams finished fifth in the women's 400 meters (55.94).
Emma Hoins took home the gold for the women's mile with a time of 4:51.38 with Melody Ochana not far behind in fourth place (4:59.94). Chase Lauman earned himself a third-place finish in the men's mile as he crossed the finish line at 4:04.34. In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Paige Kisley finished third in 8.47 seconds.
Brendan Safley took home his own gold medal in the pole vault clearing a height of 5.43 meters setting a new facility record. Spencer Kessel and Carson Lineau meanwhile captured a silver and bronze medal in the shot put throwing 17.92 and 17.25 meters respectively.
Drake Hanson (1:50.15), Jake Bosch (1:52.37) and Derek Woods (1:53.08) captured first, second and fourth places respectively in the men's 800 meters, with Kendra Nissen placing fourth in the women's 800 meters (2:13.45). The Panthers also captured fourth place in the women's 4x400-meter relay in 3:43.91.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT THE WARTBURG INDOOR SELECT
Sam Thomas (17.30m) opened UNI's weekend at Wartburg with a new personal-best to capture the men's shot put invitational title (17.30m) as Kamari Brown won the women's shot put invitational unattached (13.46m) with Lauren Kounkel, also unattached, finishing third with a new career-best mark (12.91m).
Colin Buch won the heptathlon as an unattached athlete with a score of 4,553 points, with Kaylin Lacher (2:16.00) and Anna Van Kooten going 1-2 in the women's 800 meters. Claire Wright clocked a 5:08.58 to earn second place in the women's mile run with Brayden Picken placing fifth in the men's mile (4:18.12).
The women's open weight throw was dominated by Kounkel (16.16m) and Ciara Heffron (14.71m), who placed first and second respectively with new career-best marks, while Makayla Crannell set a new season-best mark in a second-place effort in the women's long jump (5.51m), as Hannah Wallace picked up a second-place finish in the women's pole vault after clearing 3.20 meters. Nathan Wilde (17.06m) and Justin Olson (16.67m) also placed third and fifth respectively in the men's open weight throw, as Katy Stephens won the women's high jump with a 1.73-meter leap.
In the sprints, Kanijah Angel (7.80) took second-place in the women's 60-meter dash with Eden Moore earning fifth (7.92). Deonte Dean, who competed unattached, won the men's 60 meters in a time of 6.82 seconds. Darci Wiseman claimed third in the women's 60-meter hurdles (9.17), as Kyle Trunnell (unattached), placed fifth in the men's 60-meter hurdles (8.44).
