Panther track and field returns to Iowa City for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- Following stellar performances at the Jack Jennett Open and Hawkeye Invitational last weekend, the UNI track and field team will look to continue its early season momentum on Friday and Saturday as the Panthers return to Iowa City for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational.
Field events, starting with the shot put and weight throw at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, with additional field competition scheduled for 3 p.m. CT at the Iowa Indoor Track Building. Running events will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, and again at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.
Teams expected to compete against Panther athletes include Iowa, Augustana, Bradley, Illinois State, Indian Hills, Iowa Central, Madonna, Minnesota State and St. Ambrose.
The Panthers, preparing to compete in their fourth meet of the indoor season, racked up 14 titles inside the UNI-Dome last Friday at the Jack Jennett Open, including sweeps of both the men's and women's 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, long jump, shot put and weight throw. At the Hawkeye Invitational, both Josie Moreland and Rylie Todd tied for the women's high jump title after clearing 1.70 meters, while Emma Hoins set a new career-best in the women's 3,000-meter run (4:49.50).
Northern Iowa claimed two titles at last year's Larry Wieczorek Invitational, with Kendra Nissen winning the women's 800 meters in 2:17.02, and Tinashe Chigudu capturing the crown in the men's 60-meter dash (6.77).
