UNI track & field makes first of three trips to Iowa City for Hawkeye Invitational

Panther duo ties for women’s high jump title in second meet of the new year. UNI returns to Iowa City next weekend for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational.
IOWA CITY, Iowa --- The UNI track and field team returned to action for its second meet of the weekend on Saturday, competing at the Hawkeye Invitational.
Northern Iowa would record a handful of season-best performances, headlined by the Panther duo of Josie Moreland and Rylie Todd tying for the women's high jump title. This year's meet field included athletes from Bradley, Garage Strength, Indian Hills, Iowa, Iowa Central and Ottawa.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNI opened the day with Josie Moreland and Rylie Todd both tying for the women's high jump title after both clearing 1.70 meters. Chloe Largent, meanwhile, placed fourth with a 1.60-meter jump.
Emma Hoins took third place in the women's 3,000 meters with a career-best time of 4:49.50, with Amelia Hill taking fifth (4:51.15). Colin Lillie, who ran unattached this weekend, place 18th in the men's 3,000 meters (8:57.68).
A large contingent of Panthers made up the men's 800-meter field with Drake Hanson placing second with a season-best time of 1:52.82. Micaiah Ellis, Karson Kleve and Brayden Picken, all running unattached, placed third (1:53.48), fifth (1:54.43) and sixth (1:54.54) respectively.
In the sprints, Mary Kelly earned a third-place finish in the women's 600-meter dash with a time of 1:36.36, as Jake Bosch (unattached) placed fifth in the men's 600 meters (1:20.67). Joey Perry captured fifth place in the women's 400 meters (56.84), followed by Libby Wedewer in fifth (57.27), with Derek Woods earning fifth place (49.10) and Luke Meyers sixth place (49.19) in the men's 400 meters. Zach Fall also took home fifth in the men's 200-meter dash (22.06).
After a solid preliminary heat run, Drew Bartels earned fifth in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.05 seconds, with Olivia Kramer also placing fifth in the women's race (7.63).
The Panthers entered two teams in the men's 4x400-meter relay, with the combination of Zach Butcher, Fall, Derek Woods and Meyers earning themselves a second-place finish with a time of 3:14.07. Brody Lovell, Knoche, Hanson and Sheldon Lucas weren't far behind as they placed fourth with a time of 3:19.88. Darci Wiseman, Maya Williams, Joey Perry and Jersey Jones also earned a second-place finish as they competed in the women's 4x400m relay (3:49.48).
