Panther men's golf places tenth at Zach Johnson Invitational

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa --- Connor Van Weelden led the UNI men's golf team with a top-15 individual finish as the Panthers wrapped up play at the Zach Johnson Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Glen Oaks Country Club.
Iowa State took home the team title with a score of 843 (-9), while Bradley University's Connor Hamm captured the individual title scoring 200 (-13). Northern Iowa finished tenth in the team race out of 14 participating teams.
Playing in his first tournament of the season, Van Weelden finished in a four-way tie for 11th place after shooting a final score of 214 (+1) with nine birdies during the two-day, three-round event. Brock Seiser finished in a six-way tie for 27th place shooting a 219 (+6). JD Pollard ended in a six-way tie for 39th place, scoring 222 (+9) and carding his best score of the tournament in the second round with a 73.
Junior Cooper Hanson, who competed as an individual, placed 68th with a final score of 227 (+14), with Tanner Dinnebier tying his season low round on Tuesday with a 75 in the final round to finish in a three-way tie for 69th, shooting a 228 (+15). Calen Bishop rounded out the Panther field finishing in 80th place and scoring 234 (+21) with four birdies and 18 pars.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will head to Stillwater, Minnesota for the Tommie Invitational next week, Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Stone Ridge Golf Course, hosted by the University of St. Thomas.
