CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Following a strong start to the season, the UNI cross country team will take the course again late Friday afternoon in Normal, Illinois for the Redbird Invite.Â
The women's six-kilometer race will begin at 5 p.m. CT at D.A. Welbring Golf Course, followed by the men's eight-kilometer at 5:45 p.m. CT. This will be the first 6K and 8K races respectively for both teams this season.
Joining the Panthers on the course will be teams from Chicago State, Illinois Wesleyan, UIC, Missouri-St. Louis, Northern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville, Valparaiso, Western Illinois and the hosting school, Illinois State University.
Two weeks ago at the Cyclone Preview, the Panthers recorded career-best times and set new top-ten marks in their first races of the season. Emma Hoins crossed the finish line in tenth-place with a career-best time of 17:23, the third-fastest time in school history in the women's 5K, earning her Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Runner of the Week honors. Meghan Wheatley, who placed 13th in the field, finished in a time of 17:34, which was the sixth-fastest time in school history in the women's 5K.Â
Caleb Shumaker finished in eighth-place with a time of 18:31 and Carson Owens (18:43) in tenth, landing both men career-best times in the men's 6K.
