
Panther track and field finishes busy Saturday action at Wartburg and Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- Another active multi-meet weekend wrapped up for the UNI track and field team on Saturday as the Panthers sent athletes to compete just a few minutes north of Cedar Falls at the Wartburg Outdoor Select, as well as down south at the Arkansas Spring Invitational.
WARTBURG OUTDOOR SELECT
Competing on the first day of action at Wartburg, Alivia Silvestri took home first place in the women's pole vault, competing unattached after clearing 3.50 meters. Hannah Wallace (2.90 meters) and Isabelle Cox (2.90 meters) place third and fourth respectively. In the men's hammer throw, David Russell placed fourth with a personal-best throw of 50.33 meters competing unattached, as Carson Lienau took eighth place with a personal-best toss of 45.34 meters for UNI.
Day two in the field saw Josey Dunbar take home the gold in both the women's long jump as well as triple jump with marks of 5.73 meters and 11.04 meters respectively. In the long jump, Maleah Walker finished in sixth place with a jump of 5.03 meters. Allison Flanscha finished in second place in both the discus and the shot put with throws of 41.53 meters and 12.93 meters. In the discus, Emma Joens threw 38.21 meters for a fifth-place finish. Soren Maricle finished with a height of 1.58 meters in the high jump and took home a fifth-place finish.
The Panthers dominated the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon over the two-day meet finishing in four of the top six spots, including the top three spots in the decathlon, as well as five of the top seven spots including places one through four in the heptathlon. In the decathlon, Zack Butcher led the Panthers while competing unattached with 7,046 points. Brody Lovell and Colin Buch were second and third for the purple and gold with 5,877 and 5,872 points respectively. Drew Bartles meanwhile finished in sixth place with 3,791 points.
In the heptathlon, Darci Wiseman and Katy Hand led UNI with 4,082 points each to take first and second. In third and fourth places were Silvana Kabolo and Amanda Lietz for UNI, with Katy Stephens finished with 2,749 points and in seventh place.
On the track, Tyler Colvin picked up a win for the Panthers in the men's 5,000-meter run (15:06.02) with Caleb Kass following in second place (15:52.55). Carter Accola took second in the men's 110-meter hurdles (14.54), while Edgar Tapia took home eighth place in the 400-meter hurdles (58.07). Titus Jackson ran unattached for UNI in the men's 200 meters, finishing in eighth place with a time of 22.59 seconds. Deonte Dean meanwhile placed ninth in the men's 400 meters.
For the women, Eva Van De Mortel placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.19. She was followed closely by Josey Dunbar who finished in third place with a mark of 12.31 seconds. Van De Mortel also placed in the 200 meters with a fourth-place finish of 25.51 seconds. Carli Jo Fusco (unattached) took third-place honors in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.03, as Mary Kelly (2:18.74) and Grace Schaefer (2:23.34) claimed sixth and tenth place respectively in the 800-meter run.
ARKANSAS SPRING INVITATIONAL
Down in Fayetteville, Breanna Hackman took home a pair of fourth-place finishes with a 41.94-meter toss in the discus and a 13.45-meter throw in the shot put. Jorie Hanenburg was just short of Hackman's shot put mark with a fifth-place mark of 13.36 meters. The final women in the field were Chloe Largent and Josie Moreland in the high jump with seventh and eighth-place finishes respectively, both with jumps of 1.61 meters.
On the men's side, the Panthers claimed the javelin title with a 59.98-meter throw by Justice Miller. UNI also recorded finishes in spots two through five in the hammer throw including a second-place finish from Jacob Baier (57.85m), a third-place finish from Justin Olson (56.24m), a fourth-place finish from Bo Braunecker (55.18m) and a fifth-place finish from Spencer Kessel (50.50m). Braunecker recorded a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 46.6 meters, while Brendan Safley cleared 4.90 meters in the pole vault to claim third place. Ethan Peters was the final Panther in the field on the men's side, finishing with a sixth-place 1.91-meter leap in the high jump.
On the track, the UNI women took home the 3,000-meter steeplechase title as Emma Hoins clocked a winning time of 10:54.97. Kate Crawford finished in second place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:13.22, as Anna Winterrowd finished in fourth place in the 400m hurdles (1:07.06) and Sophia Jungling also took home fourth place in the 800 meters (2:10.27).
As UNI's women's 4x100-meter relay team placed second with a time of 46.91 seconds, the 100-meter hurdles saw a fifth-place finish from Paige Kisley with a time of 14.50 seconds. Liza Schaffer finished in eighth place in the 1,500-meter run (4:54.21), while Madelyn Sanda finished in ninth place with a time of 11.69 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
On the men's side of the track, Jack Sumners (13.87) and Zach Fall (49.10) took home third-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles and 400 meters respectively. Hunter Manock also finished in seventh place in the 110-meter hurdles (14.50), as Onal Mitchell crossed the finish line in ninth in the 400 meters (49.85). Micaiah Ellis rounded out the afternoon for UNI with a fourth-place finish in the men's 800-meter run (1:55.33).

The Panthers return to action next Friday, April 19 at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
