CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI track and field will make the first of two trips to Drake Stadium this outdoor season as the Panthers prepare to compete in the Jim Duncan Invitational this Friday in Des Moines. Competition is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. CT for the one-day meet.
The Panthers were busy last weekend with athletes competing in Arkansas at the Arkansas Spring Invitational and in Waverly at the Wartburg Outdoor Select. UNI captured six first-place finishes a week ago, including four titles at Wartburg.
Competing on the first day of action at Wartburg, Alivia Silvestri took home first place in the women's pole vault, competing unattached after clearing 3.50 meters. Day two in the field saw Josey Dunbar take home the gold in both the women's long jump as well as triple jump with marks of 5.73 meters and 11.04 meters respectively.
The Panthers dominated in the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon over the two-day meet in Waverly. In the decathlon, Zack Butcher led the Panthers while competing unattached with 7,046 points. Brody Lovell and Colin Buch were second and third for the purple and gold with 5,877 and 5,872 points respectively.In the heptathlon, Darci Wiseman and Katy Hand led UNI with 4,082 points each to take first and second. In third and fourth places were Silvana Kabolo and Amanda Lietz for UNI. On the track, Tyler Colvin picked up a win for the Panthers in the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:06.02.
At the Arkansas Spring Invitational, Justice Miller claimed the javelin throw title with a 59.98 meter throw. In the men's pole vault, Brendan Safley cleared 4.90 meters to finish in third place. On the track, Emma Hoins clocked a winning time of 10:54.97 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to finish first-place in the event. Kate Crawford finished in second place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:13.22. Sophia Jungling took home fourth place in the 800 meters (2:10.27).
