UNI to send 22 athletes to Xtream Arena for two-day tournament to close out 2024.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- Twenty-two Panther wrestlers will descend on Xtream Arena on Sunday and Monday as the UNI wrestling team returns to action following the holiday break at the Soldier Salute.
Competition is slated to begin with the opening session at 10 a.m. CT on Dec. 29, followed by session two at 3:30 p.m. CT on Sunday. Action continues late Monday with session three at 11 a.m. CT with the finals set for 5 p.m. CT. Brackets have yet to be announced.
This year's tournament field is expected to feature over 200 athletes from 23 different schools, including American, Arizona State, Bellarmine, Fort Hays, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Missouri, Navy, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota State, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, South Dakota State, Stanford, Tarleton State, Triton, Virginia and Wyoming.
Northern Iowa makes the short trip to Coralville after grabbing a 35-8 dual win at home over Nebraska-Kearney on Dec. 14. UNI won eight of ten matches, including six in bonus points with a pair of pins. Additionally, Rinken and Carter Freeman both made their collegiate dual debuts, each picking up wins for the tenth-ranked Panthers.Â
The Panthers saw five wrestlers medal at last year's Soldier Salute, with three returning for the 2024 edition of the tournament, including Nick Fox (6th, 174 pounds), Garret Rinken (7th, 125 pounds) and Adam Ahrendsen (7th, 197 pounds).
