
Shumaker, Hoins set new school records as Panthers host MVC Cross Country Championships

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI cross country team saw record breaking and career-best times at the meet on Friday morning as it played host to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course for the first time since 2016.
The Panthers achieved great team finishes as the UNI women finished in fifth place out of 12 teams, while the men took seventh place. Bradley won both the women's and men's team titles.
Emma Hoins finished in 12th place for the Northern Iowa ladies and broke Traci Hawley's 2007 program record of 20:56 in the six-kilometer with a time of 20:44 to earn MVC Honorable Mention recognition. Also posting a record-breaking performances for the Panther women were Amelia Hill, finishing in 16th place, with the program's new second-fastest time in the 6K (20:50) and Melody Ochana in 18th place with a finishing time of 20:59, the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Eden Mueller placed 34th with a career-best time of 21:38, followed by Kate Crawford in 37th in 21:46. Clocking career-best times were Leah Klapatauskas (22:10) with a 49th place finish and Brooke O'Brien in 57th with a time of 22:21. In 62nd place was Clare Wright, finishing in a career-best time of 22:28 and rounding out the Panther women was Lauren Klein in 67th place, also recording a career-best time of 22:37.
On the men's side, Caleb Shumaker, who finished in 18th, broke the program's record he set earlier this season at the Gans Creek Classic, making his way across the finish line in a new best time of 24:02 in the men's eight-kilometer run.
Following Shumaker was Carson Owens (24:59) in 48th place and close behind in 49th place, clocking a career-best time, was Levi Hill (25:00). Also achieving career-best times were Brady Griebel (25:15), who finished in 59th place and behind him, finishing in 70th place was Micah Rees (25:36). Rounding out the Panther men's field were Drew Dombrosky in 75th (26:23) and Josh Gormley in 78th (26:42).

The Panthers will return to the course on Friday, Nov. 15 as they compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet in Peoria, Ill. hosted by Bradley.
