CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Following a successful and record-breaking meet at the Gans Creek Classic, the UNI cross country team returns to the course on Friday afternoon in Peoria to compete at the Bradley Pink Classic, hosted by Bradley.
ÂThe men's eight-kilometer race will begin at 1:30 p.m. CT at the Newman Golf Course, followed by the run of the women's six-kilometer run at 2:15 p.m. CT.
ÂAt the Gans Creek Classic, Caleb Shumaker broke the program's 23-year-old record time in the men's 8K by five seconds with a time of 24:15, finishing in 60th place. Following him with career-best times were Carson Owens in 113th place (24:42) and Jack Bergman in 203rd place (25:28). Making their first appearance in the 8K this season were Chase Lauman, who finished in 237th place (25:44), and Brady Griebel, who crossed the finish line in 266th place (26:10). In a career-best time, Levi Hill finished in 271st place with a time of 26:13. Micah Rees finished in 273rd place in 26:15, and following him was Caleb Kass in 281st place (26:19). Josh Gormley finished in a career-best time of 26:47, earning him a 294th place finish, and rounding out the Panthers was Drew Dombrosky in 303rd place in 27:00.
ÂOn the women's side, eight Panther women achieved career-best times in the 6K race and two added their names and times to the UNI record board. Emma Hoins, who finished in 56th place overall, clocked a career-best time of 21:11, earning her the sixth-fastest time in school history and her second MVC Runner of the Week honor. Melody Ochana crossed the finish line in a career-best time as well (21:24), landing her the tenth-fastest time in program history in the women's 6K. Clocking career-best times in the women's 6K were Amelia Hill, who finished in 109th place (21:40), Eden Mueller in 131st place (21:54), Leah Klapatasukas in 178th place (22:21), Brooke O'Brien in 202nd place (22:36), Clare Wright in 234th place (22:56), and Lauren Klein in 254th place (23:08). Kaylee Woolery rounded out the Panther women in 303rd place with a finishing time of 24:08.
