CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI track and field head into another loaded weekend of competition beginning Friday afternoon as the Panthers take the short trip up to Waverly for Wartburg College's Friday Knight Lights meet, as well as a third trip to Iowa City for this year's Black and Gold Invite.
Competition on Friday in Waverly is slated to begin at 3:30 pm. CT at Hoover Fieldhouse inside the Waverly-Wartburg Sports & Recreation Center ("The W"), while field events will be held Friday in Iowa City at noon CT on Friday. The full Black and Gold Invite will begin at 11 a.m.CT on Saturday inside the Iowa Indoor Track Building.
The Panthers return to action after an impressive set of performances last weekend, which included 17 first-place finishes at the Jack Jennett Invitational inside the UNI-Dome, as well as a pair of individual titles last Saturday at Iowa's Larry Wieczorek Invitational.
At the Jack Jennett Invitational, UNI opened the meet with top-four finishes in the women's long jump with Josey Dunbar leading the way with a 5.43-meter leap, followed by Maleah Walker in second (5.26m), Amanda Lietz (5.11m) in third and Kallie Greiner (5.02m) in fourth. In the men's weight throw, Justin Olson clinched gold with a 16.63-meter toss. Alivia Silvestri topped the podium in the women's pole vault with a 3.50-meter vault and Sydnee Scott taking second after clearing 3.20 meters. Both competing unattached, David Russsell won the men's shot put throwing 15.76 meters, as Katie Fare took first place in the women's shot put with a 15.40-meter toss.
On the track, Hunter Manock finished in first-place with 8.28-second time in the men's 60-meter hurdles and Paige Kisley took home first-place in the women's 60-meter hurdles in 8.83 seconds. Luke Meyers led the pack with a career-best time of 6.73 second to take home first-place with the sixth-fastest time in program history in the men's 60-meter dash. Freshman Olivia Kramer topped the podium in the women's 60 meters with a career-best time of 7.66 to take home gold.
Libby Wedewer added another first-place finish to the Panther board in the women's 400-meter dash in a time of 58.42, while Issac Vaske finished first in the men's 400-meter dash (50.16). Eden Barrett won the women's 200-meter for the purple and gold in a time of 25.76. Running the distance, Kaylin Lacher took first place in the mile in a time of 5:19.08.
At the Larry Wieczorek Invitational, Katy Stephens recorded a career-best score in the pentathlon with 3,530 points to finish in fourth-place. In the men's heptathlon, Zach Butcher (5,160 points) came in second-place and Brody Lovell (4,679 points) placing third. Kendra Nissen crossed the finish line first for the Panthers in a time of 2:17.02 in the 800-meter dash, while Tinashe Chigudu claimed first-place in the men's 60-meter dash (6.77).
