Panthers record personal-bests in third trip to Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa — UNI track and field made its third appearance in Iowa City this month, competing in Iowa's Black and Gold Invite on Saturday at the Iowa Indoor Track Building.
In the women's high jump, Rylie Todd finished in first-place in the event for her second individual title of the indoor season with a 1.70-meter leap. Josie Moreland (1.70m) and Chloe Largent (1.60m) finished second and fifth respectively. Ethan Peters placed seventh in the men's high jump at 1.90 meters.
Josey Dunbar placed sixth in the women's long jump with a career-best jump of 5.57 meters, as Katy Stephens (5.46m) placed eighth. In the women's pole vault, Alivia Silvestri (3.60m) and Sydnee Scott (3.45m) went back-to-back placing in sixth and seventh place. Jack Sumners (7.04m) also placed sixth in the men's long jump. Brendan Safley placed third in the men's pole vault with a personal-best 5.21-meters.
On the track, Jill Bennett finished in fifth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 56.60 seconds. Chase Knoche (48.85) and Micaiah Ellis (50.44) followed in fourth and seventh-place respectively. Competing in the women's 600 meters, Sophia Jungling took home fourth with a season-best time of 1:34.51. On the men's side, Isaac Vaske finished in second in a time of 1:21.02, while Karson Kleve (1:25.08) placed seventh.
Eva Van De Mortel (7.81) grabbed fifth-place in the 60-meter dash prelims, advancing to the finals to finish in fifth-place. improving her time to 7.76 seconds. Libby Wedewer took fourth-place in the women's 200 meters in a time of 24.87, as Caroline Benfeldt-Sorensen (25.14) placed seventh. Tinashe Chigudu took second in the men's 200-meter in a time of 21.37. Deonte Dean (21.68) and Luke Meyers (21.93) finished third and fifth respectively across the board.
Tyler Colvin finished second for the Panthers in the men's 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:30.48, as Brady Griebel ran a career-best time of 8:45.23 to place eighth. In the men's 4x400-meter relay, Vaske, Knoche, Meyers and Kaden Emanuel finished in third-place in a time of 3:16.07, while the team of Brody Lovell, Dean, Chase Lauman and Kleve placed sixth.

UNI returns to action on Feb. 3 as the Panthers compete at the Iowa State Classic. Competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center in Ames.
