CEDAR FALLS, Iowa ---Â UNI track and field hops on the road for its fourth visit to Iowa City of the indoor season on Friday as the Panthers compete in the Iowa Open. Competition is slated to begin at 12 p.m. CT from the Iowa Indoor Track Building. Live results can be found online, with a livestream of competition also available with a BTN+ subscription.
Coming off four first place finishes from last weekend at the SDSU Indoor Classic, both UNI men's and women's teams finished strong in a large field of competitors in Brookings, with the Panther women taking second place out of 21 teams. The UNI men finished in fourth out of 29 teams.
Katie Fare headlined the weekend with a new career-best in the women's shot put with a career-best toss of 54 feet, 8.75 inches to earn Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Female Field Athlete of the Week honors. Fare's record throw ranks second furthest in UNI history and leads the MVC this season.
Parker Kiewiet anchored the Panther men with a first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.26 seconds, the second fastest mark in program history. Kiwiet leads all conference sprinters in the event by 1.39 seconds.
Makenna Wilson brought home the gold for the Panthers in the women's weight throw, throwing the third furthest toss in team history of 60 feet, one-half inch. Drake Hanson meanwhile won the men's 800-meters with a time of 1:50.47. Hanson currently ranks fourth in the 800-meters in the MVC.
The Panthers post a pair of top-four rankings in the 4x400-meter relays in the conference, with the women's combination of Erin Kerkhoff, Auriona Kimbrough, Emily Vos and Jill Bennett ranking fourth in the MVC with a time of 3:50.23. UNI's men's relay team of Onal Mitchell, Andrew Feguson, Micaiah Ellis and Kiewiet ranks third (3:15.18).
