CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- For the first time in program history, UNI swimming and diving will head to Morgantown, West Virginia for the West Virginia Invitational starting Thursday morning at the Aquatic Center of Mylan Park.
This year's field includes multiple programs the Panthers will face off against for the first time, including host West Virginia, Delaware, Drexel, East Carolina, Navy, Old Dominion, Seton Hall, Villanova and William and Mary.
Northern Iowa returns to the pool after going a perfect ten-for-ten in dual meets at the Coyote Extravaganza in Sioux Falls, South Dakota two weeks ago. Amber Finke posted an impressive weekend with four first-place finishes, including the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.40), the 100-yard freestyle (56.39), the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.78) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.79). Finke's finishing time in the 200-yard back currently ranks in the top-five in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) this season.
In the 50-yard freestyle, reigning MVC champion Faith Larsen continues to lead the conference early in the season after clocking a 23.76-second sprint at the Coyote Extravaganza. Olivia Chambers and Morgan Meyer also clinched multiple first-place finishes in Sioux Falls, with Meyer winning the 100-yard freestyle (52.32) and Chambers taking the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.89).
For the first time since 2002, the Panthers will compete in platform diving in addition to springboards. Erica Peters finished in second-place overall on the one-meter springboards with a career-best score of 245.40 at the Coyote Extravaganza, with Trista Thompson taking fourth (237.10). In the three-meter competition, Maddie Moran led the Panthers in fifth-place in Sioux Falls (231.10) as Hannah Taylor took sixth (227.50).
