CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI track and field resumes competition following the start of the New Year beginning Friday afternoon at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City. It will be the second of four meets the Panthers will compete in at Iowa during this year's indoor season.
Friday afternoon will consist of the weight throw at 4 p.m. at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex, while all other field events will begin the following morning at 11 a.m. with running events starting shortly after.Â
In its last trip to Iowa City, UNI registered 5 first-place finishes at the Jimmy Grant Invitational in December. Rylie Todd took first place in the women's high jump with a jump of 5' 7", while Isabelle Holtzen won the women's pole vault jumping 11 feet and 7.75 inches. Katie Fare claimed gold in the women's shot put with a career-best toss of 52 feet and 2 inches, the second longest throw in program history.
On the track, Rylan Santi set a new personal-best in her victory in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.52 for the second fastest time in UNI history. In the men's 300-meter dash, Parker Kiewiet set a new school record in the event as part of his first place finish with a time of 32.72.
While athletes competed in Iowa City in early December, multi-event athletes also competed in Ames at the ISU Holiday Invitational. Carter Morton registered his second career win in the heptathlon with a career-best 5,651 points to earn Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors. Darci Wiseman led the Panthers with a 5th place finish in the women's pentathlon with a final score of 3,067 points
