UNI track & field: Panthers excel in field events at Hawkeye Invitational

Parker Kiewiet wins men's long jump as UNI finishes in top-three in nine events.
IOWA CITY, Iowa — UNI track and field returned to the University of Iowa for the second time in the last month as the Panthers competed in the Hawkeye Invitational inside the Iowa Indoor Track Building on Friday and Saturday.
The Panthers excelled in the field events as Parker Kiewiet led the way for the purple and gold with a first place finish in the men's long jump, setting a new personal-best and meet record with a jump of 24 feet, 11 inches. Kiewiet's jump also registered as the third longest jump in UNI indoor track and field history.
Rylie Todd took second in the women's high jump after recording a 5 foot, 5 inch performance, while Katie Fare finished second in the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 3.75 inches. Sophomore Alivia Silvestri posted her best career finishing the pole vault as runner-up after notching a vault of 12 feet, 2.5 inches. Carter Morton rounded out the flurry of stellar field event finishes for UNI with a second place finish in the men's pole vault (15 feet, 1 inch).
Isaiah Trousil, representing UNI as an unattached athlete took home first place in the men's 60-meter dash with a career-best time of 6.67 seconds, notching the second fastest time in school history and setting a new meet record. The Panthers placed 3 sprinters into the women's 60-meter final, with Rylan Santi running a 7.53 to take third place. Libby Wedewer (7.69) and Jill Bennett (7.82) finished seventh and eighth respectively, both setting new season-best times. Emily Vos also notched a third place finish in the women's 300-meter dash with a time of 24.88.
Paige Holub led a trio of Panthers in the women's 800-meters with a second place finish and indoor career-best time of 2:16.70. Ella Popenhagen took third (2:20.29) as Grace Schaefer finished in fifth place (2:23.77).

The Panthers return to action next week as UNI hosts the Jack Jennett Invitational on Friday, January 20 inside the UNI-Dome. Competition is slated to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
