CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI men's golf continues its fall season with the second competition of the month at the Zach Johnson Invitational in West Des Moines starting Monday. The Panthers will begin with a 36-hole shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. to open the tournament on Monday, followed by an 18-hole round beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Hosted by Drake University at the Glen Oaks Country Club, the Panthers will compete against 13-teams including South Dakota, St. Thomas, Iowa State and North Dakota. The course is set at par 71 with a yardage of 6,898, and is ranked among the top courses in the state.
Last season, UNI placed eighth overall out of 15 teams totaling 880, with Griffin Parker coming in sixth place overall with a final score of 211 (73-71-67). Drake and North Dakota State tied for the team title last fall, totaling a score of 853 (+1), only three strokes ahead of third-place Valparaiso.
Last season, Thomas Storbeck tied for 23rd carding 219 (69-73-77), shooting his season low in the first round. Jack Moody tied for 58th shooting 227 (76-79-72), while Ben Bermel tied for 62nd notching 228 (77-73-78). Tommy Doyle shot 230 (74-80-76), tying for 70th.
Tommy Doyle led the Panthers in its previous season-opening tournament at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado earlier this month, tying for 54th shooting a total of 224. Griffin Parker tied for 71st with a score of 226, while Thomas Storbeck tied for 83rd shooting 228.
