Panther track and field wraps up Iowa State Classic

AMES, Iowa - The Panthers finished the weekend at the Iowa State Classic with four first place finishes and 27 top eight finishes.
DAY 1 - Emily Vos set a new season best in the 200-meter-dash with a time of 24.76 seconds, finishing first overall. Libby Wedewer, Tyler Gray, Olivia Hubler, and Auriona Kimbrough also set season bests in the 200m dash. Wedewer with a time of 25.15 seconds earning her fifth overall. Gray with a time of 25.45. Hubler with a time of 26.06 and Kimbrough with a time of 26.29 seconds. Freshman Ainsley Schlicher and Eden Barrett set personal bests in the 200 meter dash with times of 26.30 and 26.51 seconds, respectively.
Tayshaun Cooper led the men in the 200-meter-dash with a time of 22.24 seconds, setting his season best. Freshman Bill Mukhtar and Onal Mitchell finished with times of 22.95 seconds, leaving Mukhtar with a new personal best time.
In the 1,000 meter run freshman Craig Becker finished third with a time of 2:29.65. Fellow freshman Lake Lebahn finished fifth with a time of 2:34.53, setting personal bests for both runners in the 1,000 meter run.
Kate Crawford set a new personal best in the 5K with a time of 17:23.00 alongside Isabelle Schaffer and her new personal best time of 17:52.91. Mia Rampton stopped the clock in the 3K with a personal best time of 10:16.35.
In the field Matteo Capello took the champion title in the men's pole vault with a jump of 5.25m. Matt Davis also set a personal best in the pole vault with a jump of 4.40 meters, making a .05 centimeter improvement from his previous best mark.
In the men's long jump, Blair Brooks took runner up with his jump of 7.21m, followed by teammate Carter Morton's third place finish and jump of 6.93m.
Rylie Todd led the women's high jump with her vertical of 1.66m earning her fifth place. Freshman Layanna Green took seventh place with a jump of 1.61m.
In the weight throw, Darius King finished ninth with a toss of 19.07 meters, setting a new season's best, moving him to seventh in the Missouri Valley. For the women, junior Mari Shavers set a personal best with a toss of 18.81m earning her a seventh place finish.
Jack Sumners took runner up in the men's 60-meter-hurdles with a time of 8.07 seconds, recording his second best time of the season. Freshman Drew Bartels finished sixth with a time of 8.24 seconds. Paige Kisley finished fifth in the women's race with a time of 8.90, setting a personal best for her.
The Panthers round out the first day of competition in the 600 yard run. The Panthers do not usually compete in this event, but jumped at the chance to get better. Noel James led the women with a seventh place finish and a time of 1:29.81. Freshman Liv Freund finished eighth with a personal best time of 1:31.22, followed by teammate Millie Hill and her time of 1:31.50. Freshman Grant Rickertsen and Trevor Sauerbrei set personal bests with times of 1:17.54 and 1:19.30 respectively.
DAY 2 - Darius King commanded the shot put with his throw of 19.67meters earning him championship status and a tying mark with his season best, set at the Husker Invitational last week. Morgan Nealey finished fourth for the women with a toss of 15.10 meters. Katie Fare set her second best throw of the season with a toss of 14.78 meters earning her seventh place.
In the jumping events, Casey Hackett finished third in the men's triple jump with a distance of 13.18 meters. In the men's high jump Blair Brooks took sixth with a time of 1.99 meters, tying teammate Carter Morton's seventh place finish of 1.99 meters. Isabelle Holtzen finished eighth in the women's pole vault with a jump of 3.45 meters. Cierra Laux tied Holtzen's height for a ninth place finish.
On the track, Paishence Johnson earned championship honors in the 60-meter-dash with her time of 7.60 seconds. Teammate Libby Wedewer took fourth with a season's best time of 7.78 seconds. Tayshaun Cooper also set a season's best time in the 60-meter-dash with a time of 6.87 seconds earning him fourth overall.
Emily Vos took eighth in the 400 meter dash with a season's best time of 57.36 seconds. Kimbrough also set a season's best in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.36 seconds tying Vos and earning her ninth place. Freshman Ainsley Schlicher set a personal best with a time of 58.81, improving her previous time by .21 seconds.
Onal Mitchell set a season's best in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.01, placing him .82 seconds from his personal best time. Tate Hookham finished with a time of 50.62 seconds, placing him .35 seconds from his best. Bill Mukhtar finished with a time of 50.87, .06 seconds from his best time.
In the mile run, Jill Vonnahme set a personal best time of 5:13.84 alongside teammate Paige Holub's season best time of 5:06.49. Freshman Brady Griebel led the men in the mile with a personal best time of 4:19.04.
Freshman Grace Schaefer set a personal best in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.88, following teammate Katie Nimrod's finishing time of 2:21.06. For the men freshman Bowen Gryp and Chase Knoche set personal best times in the 800 meter run with times of 1:56.42 and 1:54.42, respectively. Senior Seb Gearhart finished with a time of 1:53.54, setting him 1.97 seconds from his personal best, set at the Husker Invitational last week.
The Panthers rounded out the weekend with the 4x400 meter relays with the women finishing fourth with a combined time of 3:52.15 by the work of Kimbrough, Vos, Gray, and Erin Kerkoff. In the men, UNI finished sixth with a combined time of 3:18.55 by the work of Parker Kiewiet, Zack Butcher, Hookham, and Mukhtar.
The Panthers return to action February 18th, to compete at the University of Wisconsin, marking the last meet before the Missouri Valley Indoor Conference Championships.
