Panther Track and Field Dominates Under Friday Knight Lights

WAVERLY, Iowa - The Panthers showed dominance over the competition with 15 first place finishes and 82 top eight finishes.

Men's 4x400 Relay
Women - The women commanded the field in the women's weight throw, led by Junior Mari Shavers with a toss of 18.28 meters. Senior Marin Ehler finished the women's weight throw with a personal best toss of 17.95 meters. Graduate Student Caitlin Thilges finished third with a throw of 17.30 meters, only .16 centimeters from her season's best. Senior Morgan Nealey finished sixth with a toss of 15.25m, tying her season and personal best.
Sophomore Katie Fare took first place in the women's shot put with a throw of 14.84 meters setting a new personal best. Ehler finished runner-up to Fare with a personal best throw of 14.59 meters. Nealey took third with a throw of 14.51 meters and Thilges rounded out the Panthers in the shot put with a toss of 13.27 meters finishing fourth.
Freshman Sophia Jungling took first in the women's mile with a personal best time of 5 minutes, 1.93 seconds. Jungling was followed by teammate Kate Crawford's personal best time of 5:07.60 and Jill Vonnahme's personal best time of 5:14.14 finishing them fourth and eighth.
Paishence Johnson took first place in the 60-meter-dash with a time of 7.55 seconds, setting a new personal best time. Libby Wedewer took runner-up with a time of 7.80 seconds followed by Emily Vos' third place finish of 7.95 seconds. The Panthers finished the sweep in fifth to eighth positions with Olivia Hubler, Ariana Yaklich, Eva Van de Mortel, and Anna Winterrowd following closely.
Emily Vos placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.35 seconds followed by Tyler Gray's finish in third place with a time of 26.15 seconds. In fourth place Olivia Hubler finished with a time of 26.47 followed by freshman Paige Kisley's seventh place finish with a time of 27.16 seconds.
Freshman Anna Winterrowd finished runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.29 followed by teammate Millie Hill's seventh place finish of a time of 1:03.49. In the 800 meter run Auriona Kimbrough took runner-up with a time of 2:18.11. Kimbrough was followed by Katie Nimrod's time of 2:20.93 and Grace Schaefer's time of 2:24.14, finishing them in fourth and fifth place.
In the 60-meter hurdles freshman Paige Kisley finished with a time of 8.92 seconds followed by teammate Kelly Proesch's time of 9.05 seconds and a runner-up finish. Lydia Berns-Schweingruber finished fourth with a time of 9.33 seconds followed by Sydney Durbin's sixth place finish of 9.87 seconds. Durbin also placed second in the long jump with a jump of 4.96 meters. Berns-Schweingruber finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 4.90 meters.
In the women's pole vault freshman Alivia Silvestri tied for first place with junior Isabelle Holtzen with a personal best jump of 3.46 meters for Silvestri. Rylie Todd took runner-up in the high jump with a vertical of 1.66 meters. Todd tied teammates Layanna Green and Marin McClowry for second place with a height of 1.66 meters. Teammates Morgan Johnk, Amanda Lietz, and Kelly Proesch finished fifth through seventh to round out the Panthers.
The women ended their time in Waverly with a second, fourth, and fifth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.
Men - The men were led by Darius King with his first place performances in the shot put and weight throw. King threw a 19.52 meters in the shot put and a 18.85 meters in the weight throw, setting a new season's best. King was followed by freshman Matt Kapuska and Jacob Baier in the shot put, with second and third place finishes and personal bests of 15.62 meters and 15.48 meters respectively.
Matteo Capello set a new season's best in the pole vault with a jump of 5.21 meters. Runner-up was earned by Brendan Safley with a jump of 4.46 meters, followed by Carter Morton's new personal best jump of 4.31 meters. Morton demolishes his previous jump by .46 centimeters (18 inches). Teammates Aaron Sobush and Teddy Allen also tied the jump of 4.31 meters landing them third place to Morton. Casey Hackett finished runner-up in the long jump with a jump of 6.52 meters.
In the men's high jump the Panthers took first through fifth with the leadership of Blair Brooks who placed first with a jump of 1.91 meters. Parker Kiewiet and Ethan Peters followed Brooks with a tied jump of 1.91 meters. Caden Ungs and Drew Bartels finished fourth and fifth for the Panthers with a jump of 1.81 meters and 1.71 meters, respectively.
In the 60-meter-hurdles Jack Sumners held his ground, after finishing first in the preliminary heat, he took to finals, finishing first again only to be set to run a third time due to a timing system malfunction. Sumners prevailed through the adversity to come out with a time of 8.09 seconds and his final first place finish of the night. Freshman Drew Bartels also came across a similar fate and finished third for the Panthers with a time of 8.12 seconds.
In the 800 meter run senior Ben Daumueller finished runner up with a time of 1:58.19 followed closely by teammates Karson Kleve and Bowen Gryp who finished in third and fourth with times of 1:58.50 and 1:58.56. Andrew Kephart finished eighth for the Panthers with a time of 2:01.00. Payton Marrs took fourth place in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:54.18, followed by teammate Caleb Shumaker's finish in eighth place of 9:09.14.
In the 400-meter dash Tate Hookham took first place with a time of 50.70 seconds followed by teammate Bill Mukhtar's finish in third place with a time of 51.25 seconds. In the 60-meter-dash senior Tayshaun Cooper tied for first with a time of 6.91 seconds followed by Micheal Santi's time of 7.02 seconds and Blair Brooks' time of 7.05 seconds finishing in third and fourth place.
The men were rounded out by the 4x400 meter relays with "UNI A" taking first place by the work of Cooper, Bartels, Daumueller, and Gryp with a time of 3:25.42. To follow in fourth place was UNI B with the work of Matt Davis, Karson Kleve, Zach Butcher, and Hookham with a time of 3:30.51.
The Panthers return Feb. 5 at the University of Nebraska for the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
