Panthers Take First Game at Home 6-0

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – In their first home game of the season the UNI Panthers beat the Viterbo V-Hawks 6-0.
The Panthers got off to a quick start with two goals in the sixth minute of the game by Ashley Harrington and Sophia Doty. UNI tacked on a third goal in the first half from Lauren Heinsch in the 21st minute from the right corner of the box. The Panthers were able to hold Viterbo to no shots on goal throughout the first half.
It was then another quick start in the second half for the Panthers as Siri Ott scored in the first two minutes of the 2nd half. That goal was then followed up by a goal from Lauren Heinsch in a one-on-one opportunity against V-Hawks goalkeeper Anna Becker. Heinsch ended the game with two goals, one assist, and 5 shots, leading the Panthers in points for the afternoon. The final goal of the game was scored by Lily Caso in front of the net with an assist by Kennedy Rieken after a corner kick from UNI.
All three goalkeepers on the Panther roster got a shot in the net throughout the game. Sophomore Chole Russo spent the most time in goal for UNI with 32 minutes in goal. Freshman Caitlin Richards was the only goalkeeper to face a shot from Viterbo in the 2nd half from forward Abbey Kellner.
The Panthers kept the V-Hawks to just 2 shots for the entire game and only 1 shot on goal. UNI was able to rack up 30 shots against Becker with 14 of those shots ending up on goal. Heinsch led in shots for the Panthers with 5, followed closely by Sophia Meier with 4 shots off the bench.

The Panther return to the road next week for a match against St. Thomas. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at South Field in St. Paul, Minnesota.
