Panthers Prepare for First Ever Meeting with St. Thomas

UNI vs. St. Thomas
THE PANTHERS
- This will be the Panthers first meeting against St. Thomas as the Tommies are playing their first season of Division 1 soccer.
- The Panthers kept the V-Hawks to just 2 shots for the entire game on Saturday and only allowed 1 shot on goal.
-The Panthers put up 30 shots in their second game of the season against Viterbo on Saturday afternoon. It was the Panthers first time to put up that many shots since September of 2016 against Midland.
- The Panthers had their most corner kicks in a game in over a decade against Viterbo University on Saturday with 12 corner kicks. The most corner kicks for a game in team history came on September 4th, 2009 against UMKC with 15 corner kicks.
- Panthers forward Lauren Heinsch led the team to a 6-0 win against Viterbo University on Saturday afternoon with 2 goals and 1 assist in the shutout contest.
- The Panthers have been selected T5 in the MVC Coaches Poll. UNI received 38 points to tie with Missouri State. Loyola received 80 points and 8 first place votes followed by Illinois State (70) and Indiana State (59).
- Three Panthers have earned preseason honorable mention all-conference honors in goalkeeper Caitlin Richards, defender Sandra Thiman and forward Lauren Heinsch.
- Richards earned honorable mention all-conference honors last spring after starting all 11 games and recording 39 saves.
- . Thiman earned second team all-conference honors after leading the UNI defense that recorded 6 shutouts on the season. Thiman started in 11 games and scored 2 goals.
- Last season freshman Lauren Heinsch made an immediate impact for the Panthers, making the MVC all-freshman team and named second team all-conference.
THE TOMMIES
-Â This is the first official NCAA Division I athletics event for Tommie Athletics as it starts its transition this fall in all 21 sports from D-III to D-I.
- The Tommies have played 3 exhibition games so far against University of Minnesota, Viterbo, and Minnesota State Mankato
