Panthers Set to Compete at Gibson Invitational

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI track and field team heads to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete at the Gibson Invitational hosted by Indiana State this weekend. The men's decathlon and women's heptathlon are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. ET and 10:30 a.m. ET, respectively, on both Thursday and Friday. Friday's action will also see field events begin at 3 p.m. ET with the men's hammer throw and women's javelin throw, and track events start with the men's 200 meters at 5 p.m. ET. Saturday's track competition will begin at 11 a.m. ET with the women's 100-meter trials and field events will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET with the men's and women's long jump. No spectators will be allowed.

Last Time Out

The Panthers last competed at the Tom Botts Invitational in Columbia, Mo. on April 9-10. Though the competition was cut short due to inclement weather, graduate-student Darius King tied his career-best outdoor shot put mark of 19.32m to place first and recorded a personal-best in the hammer throw with a toss of 58.33m to place fifth. Fellow graduate-student Kyler Yodts landed third in the hammer throw with a career-best of 62.80m. In the men's high jump, senior Cameron Cantrall took second with a mark of 1.95m, with freshman Carton Morton landing third, also posting a mark of 1.95m. UNI garnered third-place finishes from freshman Rylie Todd (women's high jump, 1.65m), junior Cierra Laux (women's pole vault, 3.76m), sophomore Katie Fare (women's shot put, 14.60m), and graduate-student Tom Yezek (men's shot put, 16.80m).

On the track, senior McKayla Cole led the Panthers in the women's 5000 meters, placing second with a time of 17:40.09. Senior Seb Gearhart clocked a personal-best time of 3:51.19 in the men's 1500 meters.

MVC Standings
UNI leads the Missouri Valley Conference in three events. King is ranked first in the men's shot put, Yezek is ranked first in the men's discus, and the Panthers lead the women's 4x100-meter relay category.
